Health4Men mentioned in article on male sex workers

HEALTH4MEN IN THE NEWS: Anova’s Health4Men initiative has been mentioned in an article on the IRIN/PlusNews website, which looks at the plight of male sex workers in Africa.

The article is based on a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and South Africa's Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT). The report covers various factors influencing male sex workers’ vulnerability to HIV infection.

The lack of availability of specialist health services was cited as a contributing factor to HIV risk among the men. Male sex workers often face stigma from not only medical practitioners, but also MSM who are not sex workers.

The article states that specialist health services catering for men who have sex with men (MSM) exemplified by the Health4Men clinics, were a step towards establishing facilities specifically for male sex workers.
