Famous faces can hurt efforts aimed at addressing HIV
It has been estimated that nearly 30 million people have died of AIDS related illnesses and it has been a long, hard battle from when HIV surfaced in the eighties to where we are now with the medical breakthroughs that have been proven to work, if followed as doctors prescribe.
In the day and age we live in where there is still so much prejudice and stigma surrounding having a HIV positive status, it is very encouraging when there are those individuals, especially people in the public eye that have the courage to make a stand and put a face to the epidemic. The problem arises though when a public figure has had the courage to make a stand but doesn't adhere to what has been proven to work to improve the quality of life and extend life expectancy.
