Having an ‘Ace’ Valentine’s Day
Some singletons think Valentine’s Day is a time to stay at home, cultivate body odour under a duvet and sing along with Bridget Jones crooning “All by myself”. This is not the case!
This is the perfect opportunity for you to enjoy a “me” day.
Clip your nails and toenails, tweeze your ‘Jumanji’ eyebrows and manscape your chest and intimate bits. To quote the irrepressible Ru Paul: “(You should) learn to love yourself, ’cause if you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?”
Indulge in some guilty pleasure: Watch those ‘uncool’ DVDs and listen to your out-of-fashion CDs – judgement free! Today is all about YOU!
You can go out dancing and eye-shag every hottie you see, or you can stay at home and give yourself those highlights and that self-tan makeover that you’ve been meaning to get around to. It may even be great to book yourself into a boutique hotel the night before V-Day and treat yourself to some pampering and a princely breakfast. It’s good to treat yourself the way you’d like someone else to treat you, and this is a way of setting the standard.
In all seriousness though, use this opportunity to strengthen the bond you have with yourself. Everybody benefits from giving their self-esteem a boost (on their own steam) from time to time. If you find yourself rolling your eyes and dry heaving at this suggestion, then this applies to you even more so!
Focus on what you dig about yourself. If you were your own marketing team and you were also the product, what would you see as your selling points? How can you spend more time (not just on V-Day) appreciating yourself more and indulging in the things that rejuvenate you and make you tick.
It’s never a bad idea to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone in order to grow, but making peace with the past and forgiving yourself will provide you with even more room to live your best life.
Why? Well, just like that cosmetic tagline says: “Because you’re worth it!”
